Dr. Eileen Mulcahy, our Chief of Staff, was born and raised outside of Chicago, Illinois. Moving to the Boston area in her teens, she attended undergraduate classes at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and graduated from Michigan State University (MSU) College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. Despite 30 years in New England, she still considers herself a midwestern gal.
Upon graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Mulcahy worked in a mixed animal practice in Shrewsbury. After one too many late night farm calls, she purchased Central Animal Hospital to focus on small animal medicine.
With the support of the community and the dedication and hard work of her staff, the practice grew from a tiny storefront into a full-service companion animal hospital in a beautifully open and sunny building just a mile from the original storefront.
As the practice aged, so did her patients. Looking for alternatives to help manage geriatric issues, Dr Mulcahy attended courses offered by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). Over 10 years ago she added veterinary acupuncture to the treatment of geriatric and orthopedic patients. Despite her intial skepticism, the results have been great and she has become a believer in complementary medicine.
In addition to working in a field she is passionate about, Dr Mulcahy's other interests include spending time with family and friends on Outer Cape Cod, exploring the National Seashore from sunrise to sunset, and photography.
